1. Canoeing or Stewing?

Summertime! And the living is... outdoorsy. Are you enjoying
the wonderful outdoor activities of summer? I love canoeing
and kayaking.

One summer a number of years ago, I took canoe instruction at
Strathcona Park Lodge Outdoor Education Centre on Buttle Lake,
Vancouver Island.

That first morning, as the group of us stood around getting
a life jacket that fit and a paddle the right length, we were
informed that right after lunch we would be doing a canoe
rescue.

After being instructed on how to paddle several different
strokes, we spent the morning practicing. All morning I
dreaded the idea of having to do that canoe rescue. Buttle
Lake is very c-c-c-cold! Though I love being on the water,
my little nose does not particularly like being under water.
Besides I also wore contact lenses I didn't want to lose.

Finally, the dreaded moment came. I'm in the canoe with a
partner and we are rocking the canoe until... splash!

And I found it exhilarating!

That very day I made up my mind to stop being a worrier.
I had spoiled a beautiful morning worrying. The stewing was
worse than the doing.

Are you a worrier? Are you ready to stop being a worrier?

The good news about worrying is that it means you have an
active imagination. But why imagine the 'worst case scenario'?

When you catch yourself worrying, choose to make a shift and
focus on a solution rather than the problem. Brainstorm
options. Ask yourself, "How can I...?" Start imagining the
'best case scenario'.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: monitor your
thoughts for one day. How often do you find yourself worrying?
Shift your focus to something pleasant. Or imagine the 'best
case scenario'. You may like this 'best case' so much that you
choose to keep focusing on it and attracting it to you!

The Imp and I would be delighted to hear your story of how you
quit being a worrier. If my story helps you stop being a
worrier, (as I hope it will), then let us know that, too. If
your story is included in a future issue of 'IMPressions',
you will receive a free set of Imp note cards.

2. Q&A:
What issues are you grappling with? Feeling stuck? Ask for
Bev's perspective. A wider perspective means more options.
When your question is answered in this column, you'll receive
a set of blank Imp note cards. Last month Stephen L.
of Surrey, B.C. received a set of note cards.

So go ahead! Send me an email!
(Your first name and last initial are used.)
What kinds of challenges face you on your journey of
self-empowerment?

Lee-Anne also took me up on the offer, available to all of you,
for a complementary 40-minute coaching session. "It was really
helpful, I enjoyed it," says Lee-Anne.

Personal Coaching may be the support you are seeking to make
profound changes. Sign up for a free 40-minute "exploration"

4. Inspirational Message to Ponder
The Imp encourages you to write the message on a card, read it
regularly, and then journal about your thoughts, insights,
feelings and, especially, actions.

This month, I've chosen two quotes:

"Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today
of its joy." Leo Buscaglia.

"If you can't sleep, then get up and do something instead of
lying there worrying. It's the worry that gets you, not the
lack of sleep." Dale Carnegie.
