1. Rhythms and Repetitions
Near where I sit in the early morning for meditation and
journal writing, there is a little clock. Tick, tock, tick, tock.
Over and over. Tick, tock, tick, tock.
Rather than finding it annoying, I realize that repetition is a
basic rhythm in our world. What examples can you think of?
Having just come back from a trip to the rugged west coast
of Vancouver Island during stormy weather, I think of the
tumultuous roar of the surf. An old song goes, "The drip,
drip, drip of a raindrop when a summer shower is through".
Listen to a carpenter using a hammer or the rhythm of a train
on the tracks.
So how can you use rhythmic repetition to your advantage?
Let me ask you a question. Can two objects occupy the
same space at the same time? Of course not. Think of your
mind like that space. When you catch yourself thinking
negatively, use repetition to your advantage by repeating a
positive statement over and over.
While you are focussing on something positive there is no
room for doubt, fear or negativity. When you are aware that
you are thinking negatively or worrying, stop. Refocus.
Be ready. Plan ahead. Suggestions:
A gratitude list - write 5 (or more!) things for which
you are grateful. Keep this list with you and reread it when
you wish to change focus.
Find something you like about yourself - a trait, talent
or skill - repeat it when you wish to refocus. For example:
I like the way I am compassionate and patient with people -
or - I am a fine singer - or - I am a competent teacher.
Hum a favourite uplifting song.
Will you apply this idea in your life? Starting now? How?
I'd appreciate knowing how this suggestion has been useful
to you.
Let me know what topics interest you. This is your newsletter
and I wish to have it reflect your interests, needs and desires
as related to your personal growth and empowerment.

4. Inspirational Message to Ponder
"You have to move up to another level of thinking,
which is true for me and everybody else. Everybody has to
learn to think differently, bigger, to be open to possibilities."
- Oprah Winfrey

carry it with you for a week and read it regularly. You may
