1. "How Will 2004 be 'The Year of The Imp' for you?"

I am hereby declaring 2004 "The Year of The Imp".
Yes, I am being that IMPudent. Why? Because YOU are IMPortant!
That's why!

Are you in a mid-January slump? Christmas and New Year's are
over. Are you feeling let down? Are the cold dark days of winter
depressing you? Did your New Year Resolutions feel like
'shoulds'? (Already dropped them? Feeling guilty?)

The Imp to the rescue! (Drum roll please <grin>)

Make this the year you Intend to be More Playful. Check The Imp
'Play!' page. http://www.theimpjournal.com/play.htm
You will find a clue for the riddle that was posted last month.

This month I've added my favorite party game.

Add to your humor quotient as well by checking out:
http://www.funnyscott.com  and http://www.HumorPower.com

Quoting Oliver Wendall Holmes, "The Human Mind, once stretched
by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions." Perhaps
this is your year to really 'Imagine! Make Believe! Pretend!'
Make it into a game. At the dinner table let every member of the
family create a whopper. While commuting to work in a carpool,
get everyone telling a 'tall tale'. Then ask yourselves: What
nugget of truth does it contain that you need to take seriously
and ACT ON?

Your mission, should you 'chews' to accept it (yes, bite off a
small chunk, something to sink your teeth into) is to Imagine
Magnificent Possibilities for yourself.

Start with allowing your Intuition to speak to you through
Meditation, from a place of Peace. Make a time and a place to
sit quietly and listen for that small inner voice. The voice
that keeps whispering, "Wouldn't it be delightful to..."
Tune out any negative "committee members" who want to speak
to you from a place of fear.

What emerged from "Intuition, Meditation, Peace"? Take time to
journal about it.

There is a saying, "If you always do what you've always done,
you'll always get what you've always got." Outcomes won't change
unless you change. A small change can have a huge IMPact.
Make it a fun one!

2. Coaching Q&A:
Feeling stuck? Grappling with some issue? Ask for Bev's
perspective. A wider perspective means more options. When your
question is answered in this column, you'll receive a set of
whimsical Imp notecards.

Go ahead! Contact Bev
(Your first name and last initial are used.)
What challenge are you facing on your journey to greater
self-empowerment?

3. News, Comments, Success Stories, Winners

Last January, 2003, the first issue of "Impressions" went out
to a handful of subscribers. This issue is going out to 112.

I enjoy hearing from you, my dear "IMPressions" reader. When I
was an Elementary Teacher, I had a journaling dialogue with my
students individually. There are several subscribers with whom
a similar thing is happening. One is Kathleen from Salt Spring
Island who wrote in response to my December article, "Thank you
for de-hyping the pressures of Christmas" and later in her
letter, "My inner child delights in making gingerbread cookies."

On Dec. 31st, while in Langley, B.C., I had the pleasure of
meeting Julian, the very first member to join the Imp Community.

I'd love to meet more of you!

If you live in the Comox Valley (or are visiting) call me at
897-0992. If you are elsewhere on Vancouver Island, we may meet
when I am in your area. If you are much farther away - who knows
what the Universe will playfully orchestrate!

December's t-shirt winner is Rob Bird of North Bay, Ontario. Not
until I heard back from "Rob" did I know that it was the same
Rob and his wife, Karen, whom I met last July when they were
visiting in the Comox Valley. You can see Rob's comment and
others by clicking 'list' at the top of the Guest Map.
http://www.theimpjournal.com/where-in-world.htm

Rob writes, "Not only did we have a great time and holiday in
BC, but the Imp escorted us back to Ontario and several of his
cousins visited locations on the way and have even gone
exploring in Ontario and beyond since then." Thanks for
catching the spirit of the Imp, Rob!

4. Inspirational Message to Ponder
The Imp encourages you to write the quote on a card, read it
regularly, and then journal about your thoughts, insights,
feelings and, especially, actions. Two this month:

"Play today. If you're too busy to play, you're just too darn
busy." Scott Friedman

"Humor is by far the most significant activity of the human
brain." Edward De Bono
