Issue # 1, January, 2003
Welcome to the first IMPressions newsletter! This issue
is going out to many people who have touched the life of
Bev Howden - some of you very briefly and others I've known
well for a long time.
This is the only issue you will receive unless you opt-in.
This IMPressions newsletter, along with The Imp Journal and
the "Imp Community" online
http://www.theimpjournal.com are
dedicated to supporting the IMP in you - your Incredible
Magnificent Potential yearning to be expressed;
the Intuitive, Magical, Passionate person you truly are.
What kinds of challenges and obstacles face you getting to
be the person you are meant to be? The Imp Community will
evolve from the needs, desires, interests and input of its
members. So how may I support you?
In many ways my new book, The Imp Journal: Guided Journal
Writing for Personal Empowerment, Volume 1 was written for
the Bev I was many years ago. Through my teens and into my
early twenties, I often felt shy, inept, lonely and inhibited.
I've since described my growth during that time as feeling
like there was a foot-thick wall of ice between myself and
other people. I wanted to get close to others and didn't
know how. The only tool I had to pick my way through that
wall was a needle. AND I DID IT! (And I'm surprised by the
tears that come to my eyes while writing this.)
You can do "IT", too!
I am providing powerful and effective tools for personal
empowerment that simply were not available years ago.
Looking back I've realized incredible potential that the
20 year old Bev never dreamed of! Whatever your present age,
you will find something of value in the Imp Community.
Here is a quote by Leo Buscaglia found on page 4 of the
Imp Journal:
"You cannot give to anybody in this world what you
do not have. And therefore you must concentrate on getting.
You must become the most beautiful, sensitive, wondrous,
magical, unique, fantastic person in the world to be able
to have all of these things in order to give them away and
share them. Think about it. If I don't have wisdom I can only
teach you ignorance. If I don't have joy I can only teach you
despair. If I don't have freedom I can only put you in cages.
But everything that I have I can give away. That's the only
reason for having it. But I've got to have it first. And so
I dedicate myself to becoming the best Leo the world has
ever known."
I'm asking you in the Imp Journal to dedicate yourself to
becoming the best YOU the world has ever known.
I'm very blessed at this point in my life to have so much
and I'm eager to give it away. I have a wealth of resources,
love and encouragement to share with you. There isn't much
point, though, in my guessing what you want. So I ask you,
how can I support you? What do you want?
To those that already have the book, what is most inspiring,
challenging, useful?
For those who have viewed the website,
http://www.theimpjournal.com your
feedback is valuable!
Help us IMProve. Have you done any writing using the Sampler?
For those that are already members, do the first few
resources on the Members Only Pages speak to you?
I invite all of you to join in the fun of helping the Imp
travel around the world by clicking on "Where Has the Imp
Been?" at
http://www.theimpjournal.com/where-in-world.htm
Everything you share is strictly confidential. When you
write something that I think is important to share, I will
ask your permission and you will remain anonymous.
In appreciation for you taking time to answer (and ask!)
questions, those who respond by March 7th have a chance
to win a copy of The Imp Journal: Guided Journal Writing
for Personal Empowerment, Volume 1.
Future content of this newsletter will be influenced by
your responses. I am planning:
1. A feature article.
2. Q&A Coaching section. You are encouraged to
ask questions that will be answered in the newsletter.
Others will benefit, too. Whether you agree or disagree,
you will gain a fresh perspective. When your question is
used, again with your permission, you'll receive a set
of Imp blank note cards!
3. News of events, reader comments, success
stories and winners. We have winners! An Imp T-shirt has
gone out to Julian Gray of Langley, BC, as the first member
to sign up before Jan.1, 2003. Earlier last year a T-shirt
went to Anne Tyrie of Alberta for her comments and feedback.
4. An Inspirational Message to Ponder. The Imp
encourages you to write it on a card, read it regularly
and then journal about your thoughts, insights, feelings,
actions. Here is the first one:
"How can one consent to creep when one has the
inclination to soar?" by Helen Keller.
In what areas of your life have you consented to
creep? Where would you like to soar?
"IMP" living is all about soaring!
The Imp Community is a place for you and others to share
in the journey of growing into your magnificent potential,
of discovering the IMP in YOU! Begin today!
