1. Feature Article: Idiosyncratic Meandering Perspectives
My husband, Wray, and I just returned from a week in Ontario
visiting his oldest son, Clark, his youngest sister, Pat, and
their families. Following are some observations and thoughts,
particularly about contrasts - what I call Idiosyncratic
Meander-
ing Perspectives. What contrasts have you experienced
recently?
The Imp and I would love to hear your "Idiosyncratic
Meandering
Perspectives". Email me
with
"Perspectives" in the
subject line.
Many times I've crossed Georgia Strait between Vancouver Island
and the Mainland by ferry. This was the first time flying.
As the sun was rising, we left Comox on the only aircraft at the
terminal at that time. On an 18-seat Beechcraft - one seat
on each side of the aisle; no flight attendant - the First
Officer, a young woman, checked seatbacks upright, seat belts
fastened; no door between the cockpit and the cabin.
The mountains were spectacular - those on the Island and the
Coast Range. The song running through my mind was "Uma Paloma
Blanca". Below were small islands I'd been on, but never seen
from the air before.
In 25 short minutes we were at busy Vancouver International
Airport and soon onto an 8-seats-wide Airbus for our Toronto
flight.
Our 15 minute trip to the Comox airport contrasted with a 90
minute drive from Toronto to Fergus, population 10,500.
That 90 minutes was just a small fraction of the time we'd be
"chauffeured" by Clark.
Made a six hour trip to Renfrew, staying at the Lochiel Street
Bed and Breakfast, joined there by Wray's sister Pat, and husband,
Tommie. The rooms were lovely and spacious. We had the whole
living room to ourselves as there were no other guests there at
the time. Pat's two children, their partners and one grandson
visited with us.
The contrast here was being included in a new "clan". I come from
a big family myself.
Six hours back to Fergus with the contrast of "country lanes" and
the 401 freeway.
We visited St. Jacob's Market, a huge outdoor and indoor venue.
It made me think of my friend, Barb Rees, author of
Our shorter, closer to home excursions included "almost 5" Anna
and "almost 3" Rosie - Wray's great-granddaughters. I became
"Nana Bev" - a first as I have no grandchildren let alone great-
grandchildren. In one park I said, "Let's look for four-leaf
clovers!" Clark found one almost immediately and a second one
later.
Saw a number of rabbits, lots of black squirrels and once stopped
for several Canada Geese and their babies to cross the road.
The week passed quickly. One wonderful thing was how it kept me
in the "here and now". I slept well every night.
Except for the last night there. Thoughts of a gazillion tasks
waiting for me at home flooded in - writing this newsletter;
attending a Board meeting; facilitating a course starting Friday
morning - "Awakening Your Prosperity Mindset" for North Island
Unity; preparing "The Imp Boutique" for Market Day on Saturday
in nearby Cumberland.
Came back seeing the world anew...
Dear One, The Imp and I would love to hear your thoughts - your
Idiosyncratic Meandering Perspectives.

2. Coaching Q&A:
"What should I do?"Q: "What should I do?"
A: We've all thought that question at times even if not uttered
aloud. It is not a Coach's job to answer that question directly.
Rather, the focus is clarification of issues and values, prioritizing,
exploring options, providing a different perspective, assisting
with setting up systems, accountability, facing fears...
And there is a still, quiet voice within with the answers. Do you
take the time to listen?
And with the inner voice come more questions.
"What do I truly want?"
"What is stopping me?"
"What obligations are really obligations and which are shoulds?"
Here is an exercise you may wish to do: Answer the question,
"What are my shoulds?" make a list as quickly as you can of about
10 items. (Maybe more or fewer.)
Now ask yourself:
"How much of my own life am I living? How much of someone
else's
life am I living? What are the consequences of dropping shoulds?"
What shoulds will you drop? What do you really want
in your life?
What would bring you the greatest happiness?
If these questions bring up the desire to make significant changes,
consider contacting me for a no obligation 40-minute Coaching
Consultation. Email with "coaching consultation"
in the subject line.
What challenges are you facing on your journey to greater self-
empowerment? Go ahead! E-mail me
with
"Coaching Question" in the subject line.
When your question is used in this column, you'll receive a
complimentary 40-minute coaching session by phone or a set of
whimsical imp notecards.
Client names are changed to protect identity and maintain
confidentiality.
Your question will be answered promptly.
No waiting until the next newsletter.

If you are interested in reading the feedback I received last month
after my article on criticism of "The Secret" email me
with "The
Secret-criticism feedback" in the
subject line. I'll send a Word document as an attachment.
Recently I've really been aware of the news of global warming;
looming food, water and electrical power shortages; the threat of
terrorism, etc.
One way to not let this information pull you down is to take
time to play! Yes, we can reduce consumption, recycle, etc., of
course. But as well as being responsible let's be joyful! Adults
often forget how to play.
The Imp has an answer to that.
If you live here in the Comox Valley The Imp Invites
you to Monthly
Play days the first Sunday evening of each month. Come
and spend a
few hours loosening up, being creative, silly, having fun and
laughing a lot. We'll play active games alternating with quieter
activities.
Contact me at (250)897-0992 for details.
There are 3 ways to win a "Live a Life of Inspiration,
Magic and
Passion" tote bag.
1. Request game cards and mark your location on The Imp's guest
map. It's fun! There's only one rule to this game - don't get
caught doing it! (I left game cards at the B&B in Renfrew, a fabric
store in Guelph and a restaurant in Malton while in Ontario.)

4. Inspirational Message to Ponder
The Imp encourages you to write the quote on a card, read it
regularly, and then journal about your thoughts, insights,
feelings and, especially, actions.
"We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time." T.S. Eliot
