1. Feature Article: "Increasing My Prosperity" Mindset

The Imp is about living a life of Inspiration, Magic and
Passion; about using your Incredible, Magnificent Potential. And
to have all that, you also need an Inner Mindset of Prosperity.

The best description I've ever found about prosperity is this one:
"Wealth consciousness is so much more than simply having the
ability to make money. It's a mindset that involves seeing life,
not as a struggle, but as a magical adventure where our needs are
met with grace and ease. Wealth consciousness is a state of mind,
a sense, not of believing but really knowing that what we need is
available to us."
(by Richard Carlson in Creating Affluence by Deepak Chopra.)

I've read a lot of books about prosperity. And recently found a
'missing piece of the puzzle' in Secrets of the Millionaire Mind:
Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth
by T. Harv Eker.

Eker describes your "Money Blueprint". As a child you learned how
to think and act in relation to money based on the influences in
your life. You were programmed with automatic responses that will
run you for the rest of your life unless you intercede and revise
what Eker calls your mind's money file.

How were you programmed? What did you hear about money? (Doesn't
grow on trees, the rich are greedy, can't afford it..., etc.)
What behavior did your parents model? Did they struggle or did
the dollars come easily? Bitter arguments or harmony? How did they
manage or mismanage money? Do you remember any specific incidents
that left an emotional impact?

If you are not experiencing your needs getting met "with grace and
ease", are you open and ready to begin reprogramming yourself?

Of course, you can't change something unless you know it exists.
Now you are aware that you have a "Money Blueprint". That's the
first step.

Next you need to come to understand that your way of thinking
originated outside of you. Your way of thinking isn't you!

The next step Eker names "disassociation" - separating yourself
from the old patterns of thinking. Choosing to keep what you
learned or letting it go based on who you are today and what you
want. Does the "file of information" stored in your mind a long
time ago hold any truth or value for you anymore?

The reprogramming means installing new thoughts. In his book, Eker
presents 17 "wealth principles" - ways wealthy people think and
act differently from poor and middle-class people. (You can also
substitute the word "wealthy" for "successful".)

of the Millionaire Mind

I've created a questionnaire base on Eker's 17 principles. If
you would like a copy of it (a Word document) e-mail me
with "Prosperity Questionnaire" in the
subject line.

Next month's article will be about further steps you can take to
living a life of Inspiration, Magic and Passion. (Exciting stuff
based on Mike Dooley's program Leveraging the Universe and
Engaging the Magic.

2. Coaching Q&A: How Do I Say No?

Dear Bev,
I have a small arts and crafts business I've been trying to get
off the ground for several years. Sometimes I wonder if it's just
a pipe dream. I was telling my husband just the other day I have
to try and work out some type of schedule of availability. People
and family just drop in and don't realize I WAS trying to work.
Any suggestions?
Robin

As Robin and I talked on the phone, she realized that she was very
much into the caregiver role. "Everyone" came to her when they had
a problem. She had a full-time job and her crafts were a time for
relaxation as well as a business.

Robin quickly recognized how often she put other people's needs
ahead of her own. A little selfishness was called for. She felt
that one of the things she needed was to be able to say, "No".

Robin had already mentioned what she needed to do. Let people know
what times she was putting her arts and crafts first and to ask
friends and family to please respect that time. Then to stand firm.

I sent Robin a list of "20 Ways to tell someone NO" by Ramona Creel.
I'll mention a few of Ramona's responses here. If you would like
the complete list (Word document) e-mail me with
"Saying No" in the subject line.

"I just don't have any room in my calendar right now."
Be honest if your schedule is filled -- and "filled" doesn't have
to mean really FILLED! It just means you have scheduled as much as
you are willing and you're stopping.

"I have another commitment."
And it doesn't matter what that commitment is. It could be a meet-
ing or a dentist appointment or a day in the park with your kid.
The point is, you aren't available.

"I'm in the middle of several projects and can't spare the time."
Let people know when you have already accepted other responsibilities.
No one is going to fault you for having already filled your plate.

"I've had a few things come up and I need to deal with those first."
Unexpected things happen that throw your schedule off - it happens.
So accept that you may need to make a few adjustments until your
life stabilizes again.

"I'm committed to leaving some time for myself in my schedule."
Selfish, selfish, selfish! But in a good way! Treat your personal
time like any other appointment - block it off in your calendar
and guard it with your life!

4. Inspirational Message to Ponder

The Imp encourages you to write the quote on a card, read it
regularly, and then journal about your thoughts, insights,
feelings and, especially, actions.

"Most people understand we are creatures of habit, but what they
don't realize is that there are two kinds of habits: doing habits
and not-doing habits. Everything you are not doing right now, you
are in the habit of not doing. The only way to change these
not-doing habits into doing habits is to do them." T. Harv Eker.
