1. Feature Article: Canoeing or Stewing
Summertime! And the living is... outdoorsy. Are you enjoying
the wonderful outdoor activities of summer? I love canoeing
and kayaking. I recently enjoyed a perfect evening kayaking with
my friend Helen and her 10 year old granddaughter, Maya.
Summer is too short to spend much time indoors at my computer so
this month's article is a reprint from the August 2003 issue.
One summer a number of years ago, I took canoe instruction at
Strathcona Park Lodge Outdoor Education Centre on Buttle Lake,
Vancouver Island.
That first morning, as the group of us stood around getting
a life jacket that fit and a paddle the right length, we were
informed that right after lunch we would be doing a canoe
rescue.
After being instructed on how to paddle several different
strokes, we spent the morning practicing. All morning I
dreaded the idea of having to do that canoe rescue. Buttle
Lake is very c-c-c-cold! Though I love being on the water,
my little nose does not particularly like being under water.
Besides I also wore contact lenses I didn't want to lose.
Finally, the dreaded moment came. I'm in the canoe with a
partner and we are rocking the canoe until... splash!
And I found it exhilarating!
That very day I made up my mind to stop being a worrier.
I had spoiled a beautiful morning worrying. The stewing was
worse than the doing.
Are you a worrier? Are you ready to stop being a worrier?
The good news about worrying is that it means you have an
active imagination. But why imagine the 'worst case scenario'?
When you catch yourself worrying, choose to make a shift and
focus on a solution rather than the problem. Brainstorm
options. Ask yourself, "How can I...?" Start imagining the
'best case scenario'.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: monitor your
thoughts for one day. How often do you find yourself worrying?
Shift your focus to something pleasant. Or imagine the 'best
case scenario'. You may like this 'best case' so much that you
choose to keep focussing on it and attracting it to you!
The Imp and I would be delighted to hear your story of how you
quit being a worrier. If my story helps you stop being a
worrier, (as I hope it will), then let us know that, too. If
your story is included in a future issue of 'IMPressions',
you will receive a free set of whimsical Imp note cards.

2. Coaching Q&A: How can I market my small business better?
Last month I came up with the idea to have 'biz brainstorming
sessions' as a response to the above question.
I put out the invitation to a number of people and on June 19th
four of us met. We used a timer and gave each person 20 minutes.
Each described what they wanted to brainstorm about and then we
shared our ideas. One important point was to not evaluate the ideas
until after the brainstorming.
Here are comments from the participants:
"I was inspired to develop a shorter, more dynamic format for my
presentations." Michael Pearce, Financial Consultant for Primerica.
Here in the Comox Valley you can reach Michael at 334-1853.
And check out Primerica at
http://www3.primerica.com
Sarah Brune, a Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner, said,
"Very good! I achieved a lot. I liked the format - gets you thinking.
And I like reporting back to people." Find out more about Sarah and
the Bach Flower Remedies at
www3.telus.net/innerharmonyhealing
Alison Roberts, a Professional Organizer, said, "I was quite thrilled
to meet with the woman at the the gift shop at the airport. That occurred
just a few days after our brainstorming session. I now have my CD there
on commission." Alison's CD is called "Move Less Stuff" and is full of
practical suggestions for anyone moving to a new home. Her CD is
available through her website
www.movelessstuff.com
Her other website is
www.clearoutclutter.com
Alison has also written a book called "Clutter's
Dirty Secret" which
goes to the Publisher this week. I'll let you know when it is available.
Oh, and what did I get from the brainstorming? Great feedback on the
description I was writing about IMP YOUniversity. (IMP YOUniversity is
still in the planning stages.)
What challenges are you facing on your journey to greater self-
empowerment? When your question is answered in this column, you'll
receive a complimentary 40-minute coaching session by phone or
a set of whimsical imp notecards.

This month's totebag winner is from Ladysmith, BC. Marguerite is
a new subscriber who requested game cards. She writes:
Hi Bev,
I got my bag and cards....thank you so very much. I shall be sure
to use it...but carefully around those places I leave a card. There's
the odd person who will "put 2 and 2 together" and I cannot tell a
lie if asked about the card and me! This is fun.
I look forward to leaving some in Ireland....and then coming back
to tell you about it. Of course, I'll take my bag as well.
Thank you... Marguerite Morrison
There are 3 ways to win a "Live a Life of Inspiration,
Magic and
Passion" tote bag.

4.Inspirational Message to Ponder
The Imp encourages you to write the quote on a card, read it
regularly, and then journal about your thoughts, insights,
feelings and, especially, actions.
"Worry is about as useful as air-conditioning on a motorcycle."
(Don't remember where I found this one!)
============================================================
I mention a lot of great books. If you are interested in having
a copy for yourself, just use my direct quick-link to Amazon:
http://www.theimpjournal.com/gotoAmazon
I love reading! So far this summer I've read
Positive Energy by Judith Orloff, M.D.
(Thank you Carol Zimmerman for introducing me to that great book.)
Refuse to Choose, Barbara Sher's latest
book.
(I love all of Barbara's books!)
Quantum Success by Bobbi DePorter (Years
ago I bought her book
Quantum Learning which is a great resource
I'll be using for
IMP YOUniversity.)
The Culture Code by Clotaire Rapaille.
Oh, and I read The Da Vinci Code in 7 hours
(Wondering if I broke
a record on that one!)
