1. Feature Article: A New Twist on Being an Environmentalist

When you think of an Environmentalist what comes to mind? Tree
hugger? Protester? Greenpeace? Well, here is the twist - you are
an Environmentalist! By conscious design or by default, you are
creating the environments (yes, plural), in which you find your-
self. You are a 'product' of nine environments.

For each, ask yourself, "Right now, is this environment
inspiring me, supporting me? Or is it limiting me in some way?
What am I putting up with that is draining me?"

1. Physical - your home, garden, place of work, vehicle, etc.
Are they pleasing places? Recommended by a friend - Move Your
Stuff, Change Your Life: How to Use Feng Shui to Get Love, Money,
Respect and Happiness
by Karen Rauch-Carter.

Do you live with a bright, but frustrated teen who is bored at
school? Suggest The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to quit
school and get a real life and education
by Grace Llewellyn.
School is sometimes a stifling environment.

2. Body - How you relate to your body and meet its needs - issues
like controlling weight, exercising, food choices.
The 4 keys to a Long Life by Ron Garner is the best book I have
ever read on understanding what creates health and how to prevent
illness. Available at http://www.hopeforhealth.com
When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress by Gabor Mate,
M.D. is another valuable book.

3. Self - your sense of self-worth, your self-esteem, feelings,
emotional makeup, values and how you think others perceive you.
The Self-Esteem Companion by Patrick Fanning et al.

4. Spiritual - rather than 'religious', how you feel connected
to 'Source'.
One Day My Soul Just Opened Up by Iyanla Vanzant
Handbook to Higher Consciousness by Kenneth Keyes
You Can Have It All by Arnold Patent
Finding Yourself in Transition: Using Life's Changes for
Spiritual Awakening
by Robert Brumet

5. Close Relationships - family and friends.
Because I Love You: How the Way We Talk Can Make or Break Family
Relationships Throughout Our Lives
by Deborah Tannen.

6. Network - all the other people you know. Particularly if you
are in business, the article The Fine Art of Effective
Net"working" by Renate Weiler is worth reading (and applying!)
http://www.renateweiler.com/articles.html

7. Nature - We are affected at a cellular level by the natural
world. A client of mine recently discussed how much she misses
the energizing effect of the ocean now that she's in Ontario.
Do you spend too much time indoors? After a walk, I'm sure you
feel more refreshed, with a brighter, more positive attitude.

Children of today spend far fewer hours outdoors than children of
earlier generations. The consequences of that are discussed in
Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature Deficit
Disorder
by Richard Louv.

8. Memetic - the sea of information, ideas and concepts that
surround you. Do you immerse yourself in resources that empower
you? Do you read inspiring books?
Or do you choose to watch violence on TV?

The Imp is eager to let you know that The Imp Journal is more
than just a book! It's a lifelong guide and an online community.
The Imp Journal: Guided Journal Writing for Personal Empowerment,
Vol. 1
http://www.theimpjournal.com/order-journal.htm

The Success Principles by Jack Canfield is the book I'm currently
working my way through.

9. Financial - how you think about, feel about and manage money.
Your Money or Your Life: Transforming Your Relationship With
Money and Achieving Financial Independence

by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin;
The Energy of Money by Maria Nemeth, Ph.D.

Part 3 of my 7-week Starting Life Over e-coaching program is a
comprehensive look at your money environment. Only to you as a
subscriber and only until July 22nd, I'm offering Part 3 by
itself (PDF file) for just $10.
http://www.theimpjournal.com/aboutmoney
(Aspects of the other environments are also addressed in the
Starting Life Over program.) http://www.StartingLifeOver.com

The concept of the 9 environments comes from Coachville - an
incredible resource online. And it is not just for coaches!
Starting August 8th they will be having a course delivered by
telephone on Personal Environments. (I'd decided to write about
personal environments before attending the Coachville
"Introduction to Personal Environments" teleclass last Wednesday.
Ah, synchronicity!)

Joining Coachville is f-r-e-e. You may wish to be part of their
"Personal Environments" and/or "Happy Human" Communities.

2. Coaching Q&A: How Can I Best Use This Time?

Pamela just resigned from a very stressful job. She's taking time
off before starting a new job in September. She's also dealing
with health challenges. She asked, "How can I best use this time?"

Pamela explained that she did not want to overwhelm herself with
choices or overbook her time (a past tendency). On the other
hand, she was frightened of 'empty time'. She'd get anxious.

Pamela, I first want to acknowledge your high level of personal
awareness and strength: to leave a toxic work environment, to
know your pitfalls and work to plan strategies to effectively use
your time off. I admire your tenacity to keep going in your
search for an answer to your health challenges.
That takes a lot of courage!

Pamela had already bought a large calendar so that she can see
this block of time in its entirety. The balance between rest and
recreation can be marked down and color-coded to see at a glance.

One of the things Pamela wants is time for 'absolute fun'. She
recognized her tendency to over-extend herself, for example in
the past, planning a big party. The decision here was to ask a
close friend to plan a fun day just for the 2 of them.
The element of surprise will add to the fun!

Pamela also wants to celebrate the end of her present job. Again,
she felt confident that she could rely on friends to organize a
Potluck Party.

In addressing her health challenges, Pamela had already arranged
to have an early morning walking buddy. Several months earlier,
she had made the choice of changing to a raw food diet and
acknowledged how difficult that was to do. Though she is part of
a raw food support group that meets several times a month, we
discussed having a 1-to-1 buddy who could be there for her on a
daily basis.
Here is an interesting article discussing raw food diets.
http://www.fredericpatenaude.com/questions.html

Pamela plans to book the time for several massages and a special
spa treat, the 'Pacific Mist Hydropath'.
http://www.kingfisherspa.com
Another special treat will be a few days for a personal growth
program at 'The Haven'. http://www.haven.ca

In addressing her anxiety around 'empty time', Pamela will mark
on her calendar some time without activities. She can daydream,
think about upcoming events, snooze or read. If she finds herself
feeling anxious at these times, Pamela will use the Emotional
Freedom Technique. www.emofree.com

What challenges are you facing on your journey to greater self-
empowerment? When your question is used in this column, you'll
receive your choice of a 40-minute complimentary coaching session

3.News, Comments, Success Stories, Winners

Last January, I set a goal to become a Certified Coach through
the International Association of Coaches (IAC).
http://www.certifiedcoach.org
At that time, I had a special offer for you, my subscribers -
a way to help you while you helped me IMProve my skills. Last
week I submitted the required taped coaching sessions for
evaluation and am awaiting the results.

Here's another special offer while I'm waiting: Only $60 per
month for three 40 minute coaching sessions by telephone plus
unlimited emails. Let me support you in creating environments
that sustain you in doing what you want to do.

Have you ever been all 'charged up' by a weekend workshop, for
example, and then find after a few weeks nothing has changed?
That's because the environment you went back into did not enable
you to sustain the change. Change becomes sustainable when there
are failsafe structures within those environments which support
your change.

Designing Supportive Environments is one of the proficiencies
that must be mastered to become certified by the IAC.
Contact me,

It is always a delight to meet subscribers to this newsletter.
This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Anne T. from
Alberta while she spent holiday time here on Vancouver Island.
I'd love to meet you if you're ever here in the Comox Valley.
If you are not allergic to cats, I may even accommodate you
overnight and drive you to the airport as I did for Anne.

This month's t-shirt winner, Carole, has not yet claimed it. The
Imp is eager to send it to you, Carole, so we hope to hear from
you soon. There are 3 ways to be eligible to w-i-n an Imagine
Magnificent Possibilities t-shirt:
1. request Imp Game Cards and mark your location on The Imp's
Guest map. It's fun!
(There's only one rule to this game - don't get caught doing it!)
http://www.theimpjournal.com/where-in-world.htm
2. the month you are a new subscriber.
3. when you become a new member of "The Imp Community" online.
You automatically become a member when you purchase the book.

4.Inspirational Message to Ponder
The Imp encourages you to write the quote on a card, read it
regularly, and then journal about your thoughts, insights,
feelings and, especially, actions.

The beauty of the trees, the softness of the air,
the fragrance of the grass, speaks to me.

The summit of the mountain, the thunder of the sky,
the rhythm of the sea, speaks to me.

The faintness of the stars, the freshness of the morning,
the dewdrop on the flower, speaks to me.

The strength of fire, the taste of salmon,
the trail of the sun, and the life that never goes away,
they speak to me. And my heart soars.
- Chief Dan George.

During this beautiful summer season may you be deeply nurtured
by your natural environment!
