1. Feature Article: Goin' to 'YOU'niversity
Are you an enthusiastic, lifelong Learner? I am. And I know
that much of my most valuable learning has not been through
formal education. Why is that? Because self-directed learning
is relevant, meaningful and something I'm passionate about!
Or are you a 'wounded learner'? Did you have negative,
humiliating experiences through school? Even more IMPortant,
then, for you to discover 'YOU'niversity! No failure, no exams,
no humiliation, no drudgery studying irrelevant material, no
jumping through hoops!
And if you doubt your ability to learn, please contact me. I love
supporting 'wounded learners' to heal and rediscover the love of
learning they had as a curious 4 year old. Bonnie M., a Special
Needs Teacher I formerly worked with said, "Bev is truly a
learning enthusiast whose talents would benefit students of all
ages whose abilities range from disabled to gifted. She seeks to
find the pearl in each person and patiently cultivates it."
So how do you enrol in 'YOU'niversity?
Easy! Start with setting the Intention:
"When the student is ready, the teacher appears."
Resources are everywhere! Books, tapes, courses, internet,
library, special interest groups and personal coaching.
Make a commitment. Write down your goals, perhaps find a support
buddy, make any arrangements that you need to.
Prioritize! Look at how you spend your time and ask yourself,
"Is this something of high value in my life or low value?"
Example: watching television. Make a choice to spend your time on
high value activities.
Have you heard the expression, "University on wheels"? It means
learning from tapes or CDs while driving. If you commute, that is
an ideal time to be learning! Be aware that some tapes aren't
suitable as they put you in a meditative state.
Suggestions:
1) I love the programs from Learning Strategies Corporation. In
1993 I took their 'Photoreading' Course - mentally photographing
the printed page to absorb information at a phenominal rate. I
also have their 'Natural Brilliance' Course - book and tapes.
Recently I listened again to two paraliminal tapes: "Self-Esteem
Supercharger: face life's challenges with a positive belief in
yourself" and "Get Around To It: establish your priorities in
life and easily complete important tasks." Many new programs have
been added.

2) Coachville is not just for Coaches! They have great 'Learning
Communities'. Two you may be interested in joining are 'Fully
Alive' and 'Personal Freedom'. Explore the site - there is
so much offered!
http://www.cvcommunity.com/?af=1246
3) I've listened to Nightingale-Conant tapes for years. I love
'Accelerated Learning Techniques' by Brian Tracy & Colin Rose.
It's still available.

The Imp and I wish you an exciting journey of self-directed
learning! I'd love to hear about your ventures!
(When your comments are included in IMPressions, you'll receive a
set of whimsical Imp notecards.)
Oh, the Imp is tugging at my sleeve to remind you that one great
vehicle for learning is using The Imp Journal! Get yours now at:

2. Coaching Q&A: A Request and an Offer
If you'd like one-to-one support now is the time! Whether goin'
to 'YOU'niversity, progressing through 'Starting Life Over',
as a 'wounded learner' ready to reclaim the joy of learning or
some other reason. I've a big goal I'm working on and I've come
up with a way that I can help you while you help me!
First, my goal: I'm working on coaching certification through the
International Association of Coaches (IAC). IAC's certification
is proficiency based so the more practise I get the better. Help
me IMProve. I've completed Part 1 of their 3-part process.
Here is what John Russell, the Managing Director of Harley-
Davidson, Europe Ltd. has to say about coaching: "I never cease
to be amazed at the power of the coaching process to draw out the
skills or talent that was previously hidden within an individual,
and which invariably finds a way to solve a problem previously
thought unsolvable."
Now, my offer: Until June 30, 2005, three 40-minute coaching
sessions per month for only $30 (plus unlimited e-mails) AND the
first two people to accept this offer get the first month free!
When I become certified, my standard coaching arrangement will be
three 40-minute sessions per month for $200 (plus e-mails).
Coaching is done by telephone. Openings: Monday - morning,
afternoon or evening; Tuesday and Wednesday mornings; Thursday
afternoons. Contact me with any questions or to schedule your
first session. I may be able to squeeze in other times.

The tsunami devastation in South Asia is almost beyond compre-
hension. I'm sure you have all found ways to make a contribution.
Here in the Comox Valley there's been a rally, silent auction
and benefit concerts. Through
http://www.StartingLifeOver.com
I'm contributing 90% of the proceeds of sales to the Red Cross.
If you or someone you know is facing a bleak new year, consider
the 12-week 'Starting Life Over' program - a way to help yourself
and help the relief effort at the same time. Until January 31,
save $80 off the regular price. Bursaries are also available.
I loved the information I received from Ernalee Alde New Year's
Day about how we can all help the recovery in South Asia. Masaru
Emoto has done amazing work with water crystals showing how water
is affected by our thoughts! Please read his urgent message at
http://www.thank-water.net/english/
You may also be interested in Emoto's book "The Hidden Messages
in Water" and his "Water Crystal Oracle" card deck with 48
beautiful images. If you'd like to buy them through Amazon, I'd
appreciate you using my affiliate link:

Emoto's work is part of the movie, "What the Bleep Do We Know".

This is the 2nd anniversary of IMPressions! The first issue came
out January 2003. I wrote a bit about growing up shy: "In many
ways my new book, The Imp Journal: Guided Journal Writing for
Personal Empowerment, Vol. 1 was written for the Bev I was many
years ago. Through my teens and into my early twenties, I often
felt shy, inept, lonely and inhibited.
"I've since described my growth during that time as feeling like
there was a foot-thick wall of ice between myself and other
people. I wanted to get close to others and didn't know how. The
only tool I had to pick my way through that wall was a needle.
AND I DID IT! (And I'm surprised by the tears that come to my
eyes while writing this.) You can do "IT", too!
"I am providing powerful and effective tools for personal
empowerment that simply were not available years ago. Looking
back I've realized incredible potential that the 20 year old Bev
never dreamed of! Whatever your present age, you will find
something of value in the Imp Community."
What made me remember that was new subscriber, Shane McKay, who
has a website for shy people.
http://www.shyunited.com
if you are the least bit shy, check it out!
December's t-shirt winner was Shelagh Daniel of Hendersonville,
Tennessee. She writes, "I'm married with 5 children (yours, mine
and ours!). The youngest is our beautiful 19 month old daughter!
As for being a new Mom at my age I love it! Motherhood at 40 is
amazing! People always ask me, 'Are you crazy?', and I tell them
'no just very blessed!"
Will the January IMP t-shirt be yours? New subscribers are
eligible. Another way is to help the Imp travel around the world.
Have fun and enter your location on the guest map. I mailed cards
last Wednesday to Pakistan. Request game cards at

The Imp encourages you to write the quote on a card, read it
regularly, and then journal about your thoughts, insights,
feelings and, especially, actions.
