1. Feature Article: Are there roses that need
smelling?
In May 2003 my feature article was about handling overwhelm.
I used the riddle, "How do you eat an elephant?" (one bite at
a time) as a way of focusing on one small step at a time.
This past month I've experienced 'eating elephant' as subtle
pressure to take bites that are just a little bit bigger.
And then chew faster! Oops, dropped a piece...
Suddenly, the elephant is not so appetizing...
Recent newspaper articles have spoken about work-related stress
increasing. Have you experienced times in your life when you've
wanted to step back from all the pressure and reassess values
and priorities?
Getting sick is a common way of taking time off. There are
pleasanter options. I recently heard the expression 'quality down-
time.' Honour your downtime! What's 'getting sick' really telling
you?
What would happen if you took one day off work now? (And avoided
longer time off due to illness.) Get extra sleep. Meditate and
wait for inner answers. Ask soul-searching questions. Stand back
and look at the big picture, (The entire elephant). Be aware of
the distinction between urgency and importance. A useful book is
"Your Money or Your Life" by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin.
Every Monday and Friday I receive a 'message from the Universe'.
I subscribe to 'Totally Unique Thoughts' from
http://www.tut.com
Last Monday's message was:
"So what if it takes a long time, Bev? So what if it's already
taken longer than you thought? So what if it will still take
longer?
"The day will nevertheless arrive, as it always does, that all
your prior efforts, determination, and persistence will seem a
paltry price indeed as you are lifted irrevocably higher, as if
by chariots of fire.
"I can hear the music now."
The Universe
I found those words really helpful. So what! When I honour down-
time, I know I'll get back to a project with renewed vigor.
Right now, though, there are roses that...
P.S.
The 'Christmas Elephant' is upon us. Many years ago, I read the
book, "Unplug the Christmas Machine: a Guide to Putting Love and
Joy Back into the Season". There is a newer edition by Jo
Robinson and Jean C. Staeheli. Let go of the stress around this
beautiful season.
P.P.S.
Did you like today's article? If so, and if you are in a major
transition in your life (or just itching to make changes),
you'll LOVE my Starting Life Over program. Check it out at

P.P.P.S.
Be sure to check your e-mail tomorrow (Nov 18) when "The Imp"
will share information with you about a one day special offer
including how to receive $300 in free valuable gifts.
This offer is so compatible with what "The Imp" stands for and
with my discussion of 'downtime'.

2. Coaching Q&A: This Month My Question,
Requesting Your Answer.
Are you a woman over 50 (60, 70, 80...) wishing to embark on a new
adventure? Time to follow your passion?
Maybe you are an 'empty-nester', or recently retired, lost your
job, widowed, or experiencing a restlessness that won't go away.
Whatever your circumstances, would you like to be part of a
success group of like-minded women supporting each other?
If there is enough interest, I will facilitate such a group by
e-mail and telephone conferencing. Here in the Comox Valley we
could meet in person.
Contact me
here and we'll explore Inspiring,
Magical, Passionate
ways of creating the life of your dreams. Who else do you know
that might be interested? Please share this information.
What challenges are you facing on your journey to greater self-
empowerment? When your question is answered in this column, you
will receive a complimentary 40-minute coaching session. Only
expense is your long distance phone charge. Go ahead!

4. Inspirational Message to Ponder
Which quote, of 3 this month, resonates with you? The Imp
encourages you to write the quote on a card, read it regularly,
and then journal about your thoughts, insights, feelings and,
especially, actions. (Well, maybe this month, inaction.)
Idleness is not doing nothing.
Idleness is being free to do anything. Floyd Dell
(The Imp's version of this one is, "Idleness is an avenue to
Meaningful Possibilities.")
There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is in
having lots to do and not doing it. Mary Wilson Little
I believe that uncertainty is really my spirit's way of whisper-
ing, "I'm in flux. I can't decide for you. Something is off-
balance here." Oprah Winfrey, O Magazine, June 2003
